In May 2021, for the first time in several years the Russian Federal National Guard Service (FGSNG) adopted a new pistol - the Lebedev modular pistol (MPL) and its special version MPL1, developed by the Kalashnikov group of companies

The MPL and MPL1 pistols are designed to use 9x19 mm ammunition, including 7N21 high-capacity ammunition. The MPL and MPL1 are fitted with a clip for flashlights and laser pointers, interchangeable grip plates, as well as a magazine with ammunition indicator.
